Xanadu Awards

The late great Steve Jobs once shared the following wisdom: “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” For the staff and owners of Xanadu Guest Villa this certainly rings true.

Their passion for what they do on a daily basis is evident in every last detail – from the well-kept, tastefully decorated guest rooms and common areas, down to the warm and hospitable atmosphere that prevails over the whole establishment.

The number of awards they have consistently reaped over the years confirms this unquenchable dedication and passion for excellence in all they do.

Xanadu Guest Villa has been awarded a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence in 2013. This sought-after recognition in the tourism industry applauds top-notch establishments that are continuously committed to greatness.

This was followed up in 2014 with a nod from the Tourism Operators’ Association which appointed them as the Best Guesthouse on the Garden Route. This is no small feat, as the Garden Route is one of the most popular holiday destinations in South Africa, covering a distance of approximately 300km which is densely scattered with guest houses.

In 2016, the guest house was honoured by being elected as the winner of the prestigious Sanlam Top Destinations Award in the category Best 5-star Guest House – for which they also earned a second place in 2017 and 2018. Any accommodation establishment in South Africa can enter this competition in one of nine categories. The public are voting for their favourites and once the finalists are determined, they are subjected to a rigorous set of internal criteria, including the dreaded mystery shopper. From this the nominees are identified and the winners are announced at a glamorous awards ceremony. Literally thousands of accommodation businesses across South Africa enter annually – this year alone there were 13 400 contenders.

2018 proved to be a stellar year for Xanadu Guest Villa as recognition kept coming their way. The leading accommodation booking network, Rooms for Africa, awarded them their esteemed Traveller’s Award 2018 and another feather was put in their cap by being a provincial finalist for The Lilizela Tourism Awards 2018. The latter is an initiative from the national department of tourism, driven by South African Tourism en delivered by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa. The aim with these awards is to recognise and celebrate excellence in tourism.

“We are very thankful for all these awards. It is extremely motivating and the recognition makes all our hard work worth the while,” says Tersia Hoffmann, co-owner of Xanadu Guest Villa. “It encourages one to work even harder and to raise the bar even higher.” Her husband and business partner, Albert, agrees: “Our motto is to do what we do in the best way possible.”
