Garden Route Horse Trail

The Garden Route Horse Trails take place in the Garden Route National Park and its immediate surrounds, near Wilderness.

There are a number of well-trained horses here, and they are chosen according to the individual abilities and preferences of the riders.

The optimal pace of the horses, their power and their ability to negotiate the terrain make them the ideal travelling companions and transport providers. Visitors are sure to love the personal interaction with these magnificent animals as they amble through the countryside with an experienced guide.

Brown Hooded Kingfisher Trail

Meander through the Wilderness on the Brownhooded / Half Collared Kingfisher Trail which runs along the Duiwe River. This 7.2km walk is easy going and suitable for any fitness level.

Walking down the path you will find yourself surrounded by a thriving river forest area. Often the path will cross over the river itself, take care when crossing as some stones and rocks may be slippery.

Eventually you will get to a stunning rock pool area that is also an ideal spot to chill out, relax or picnic. The birdlife in the area is abundant and if you are lucky may be able to spot the Cape Robin, Brownhooded Kingfisher, Cape Battis, Egrets, Fish Eagles and many more.

Binoculars and cameras are a must on this trail with lots to look at and great photo opportunities all around you. When you get to the entrance you will be issued with a permit which may be charged for in peak seasons.

Malachite Bird Hide

Nature lovers and bird nuts flock to the Malachite Bird Hide, set in the Wilderness National Park along Langvlei Lake where you can see an outstanding array birds.

This relaxing and comfortable viewing point is accessible from a sturdy boardwalk. Enjoy the splendid views and the quiet, tranquil environment around you, while peering through your binoculars at the nature around you.

You can expect to see some outstanding species including the Common Greenshank, Reed and Breasted Cormorants, African Purple Swamphen, African Sacred Ibis, African Fish Eagle, Yellow-billed Duck, Egyptian Goose and the Purple and Grey Herons.

Parking is available near the boardwalk so you don’t have far to walk to get to this idyllic destination.

Palms Garden Square

What was once a tranquil retreat has now been transformed into a charming shopping centre with a range of unique and exciting finds. This square is characterised by its exquisite green gardens, the koi pond, and the towering milkwood trees that cast their welcome shade.

Palms Court Square is situated in Wilderness, which is a relatively small and quiet town along the world-renowned Garden Route, between Knysna and George. This puts it in the prime spot to welcome visitors en route, travelling between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, and visiting the many towns between these two metropolises. This history of this property just seeps through every part of the experience.

Bergplaas MTB Route

There are many riding options along the 7 Passes Road leaving one hard-pressed to choose between them. By all accounts Bergplaas state forest, an area protected for conservation, is one of the most beautiful spaces in which to ride in the area, and gives any number of different route options, dependent on riders' needs.

It is an indigenous plantation managed by Cape Pine that lies 15 km inland from Sedgefield and the Wilderness (one of three plantations and villages in the area).

The vibrant atmosphere makes this something visitors to the market have come to rely on as a place that always has tons going on. Pop in at one of the restaurants or pubs and enjoy a craft beer. Try on unique clothing and shop around for interesting keepsakes.

Cloudbase paragliding

Jan Minnaar and Khobi Bowden apply their extensive local and international knowledge to enable you to fulfill your dreams in this on-going skill development sport.

Based in the Garden Route town of Wilderness on the East Coast of South Africa. There are 24 flying sites within an hour’s drive. These range from easy coastal soaring to cross country thermals.

Woodville Hiking Trail with Big Tree

The 'Big Tree' is a yellowwood tree estimated to be 850-years old is a great attraction in Hoekwil, especially for hikers.

A clearly marked path leads into the forest, crossing a stream several times. Many of the trees are labelled so one can identify them.

This is a circular trail extending about 2 km. There is a designated picnic area and kids can play in the streams. There are ablutions and wheelchair-friendly walkways through the forest.
